About DFA

For more than 65 years, the Dalhousie Faculty Association (DFA) has represented the interests of Dalhousie University's teaching, research, professional librarian and professional counselling staff in the matters of employer-employee relations. Today, we represent approximately 1,000 members. Under the leadership of a volunteer Executive Committee, DFA deals with items and issues of common interest to our members and addresses broader interests of the academic community.

DFA was formed in 1951 and on November 24, 1978, the association was certified by the Nova Scotia Labour Relations Board as a Bargaining Agent under the “Trade Union Act” of Nova Scotia. DFA has the exclusive authority to bargain collectively on behalf of those members in the Bargaining Unit.

DFA is affiliated with the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT). Membership in the DFA includes membership in CAUT.

If you have an item or issue to bring to the Executive's attention, please call (902) 494-3722 or email dfa@dal.ca.
